protected?

Yes! I am indeed very protected!

God has indeed been holding my handlebar with me! (:

many near misses: rear skidding, taking the corner too fast that I almost went up the curb, leaning on the guy next to me cos he attempted to come into my line. crashing during the race and landing on my BUTT without any injuries except 1/2 the size of a 1cent coin abrasions on the butt .... and many more!

so done and dusted with 3 races last week:

1. Houpline (Saturday) - 90km (18 x 5km): Weather was AWESOME. 30 deg, hot hot hot! Got dropped by the pelaton due to BAD positioning. It was just like a thomson ride with many turns, pretty managable, BUT once you are behind, your head would be on your handlebar, biting it. That's what happened to me, TWICE, all because I wanted to stay safe and take the corners slowly. Races here are nice because they don't ask you to get off the circuit even when you are lapped. Finished the 1st out of 3 women (the other 2 were recreational cyclists) and got 10euros from this race! Twas a good interval/waking up of legs session, although I only completed 80km (got lapped twice).

2. Belgium (Sunday) - 102km (14 x 7km): It was chilly and I was so afraid at the start. Then it got a lil warmer... The ladies were very friendly! Have never raced with so many lean and mean looking females before! Some of them spoke with me at the start line. Course was a rolling one and very bumpy (the usual with the roads here) and I was soooo afraid of crashing! There was this downhill which was full of holes and bumps, your bike sounds like its going to break apart when you go down! I was holding the shifters and "BAM!" my handlebar shifted cos if was SO BUMPY! thank God it was not much, so I just held my drops most of the way in the race and it was comfortable. Corners were taken really slowly and carefully and obstacles were pointed out, just like in a group ride! very friendly peloton. Accelerations were also not very fast! Thanks to the warm up the day before with the Cat 3 guys, the females' accelerations are just ---------- like that, no major wham-bam-help-i-cannot-catch-the-guy-in-front kinda accelerations. All was going nice and dandy..............then, it POURED. BIG HUGE DROPS FROM THE SKY. My body FROZE. Literally. My leg muslces, fingers, chest, EVERYTHING! Couldn't move, couldn't breathe. The peloton got broken up into 3 parts and I got dropped from the main peloton just because I couldn't breathe even when pedalling at a mere 150W!!!! Then as quickly as the strom came, it went away! Praise God! and despite having x10000 million billion thoughts of giving up, I was still pedalling, and somehow, the peloton became 1 and I got back in. The breakaway went at about halfway through the race and we never got them back. Bonked at the last 500m due to not enough gels, no electrolyte in the bottle, and stupidly not taking the bottle of coke that Luke ran to get for me when I requested for gels at the last round. Good race though, at least I know I am there! (: Lesson of the day: Gels, electrolyte + carbo in bottle are VERY important.

3. Chocques (pronounced shioks) - 102km (13 x 8km): wet and rainy day, were were all so unwilling to ride to due the fear of the cold + bike handling in the rain. POURED a 15mins before the start and we just sat in the car and whined. hahaha. Then the rain stopped 5mins before the start and we rollled around a bit before heading to the start line. I had another strong looking female at the start line with me and we were allowed to go first. Right, left, right left, left, left, turns. Thank God the peloton took the turns pretty slowlly (compared to the houpline race) and if you position yourself high up in the peloton, it's a breeze. Unfortunately, I did not, and I almost got dropped at the 4th or 5th round. Thank God for the strength and that the peloton slowed down, so I managed to hang on. The female was really good at positioning herself in the peloton, alwasy moving herself up when there was a chance, so I started sucking her wheel and just following when ever she moved. Really learnt a lot from her that day. The break went about halfway through the race and so the speed of the peloton was very easy after they left. Positioning is SO very important, it really saves so much energy! and so we ended up with a sprint finish. Marcus and Luke were not in the breakaway and so they were 'protecting' me towards the finish. Feels nice to have teammates around 'protecting' you. Although they didn't really help me with the sprint finish, just by having them around me must have given the other female some pressure...the last few meters to the finish was very messy and I sat behind her wheel all the way till the last 200m and then saw a gap, squeezed through and won w/o much effort. Praise be to God! We won 5euros each, plus a medal for me. Good day at the office.

The boys are out racing now, but I am sick so rest day it is! We have been sick since about a week ago....due to some virus flying around in our house from a frog.. must have passed it to us :( Marcus got it, then me, then Luke. Marcus has more or less recovered, but me and Luke are still suffering. Coughing like crazy and finding hard to breathe and my Heartrate is a whopping 15beats higher than usual. As a result, I DNF-ed a race yesterday after a crash (the crash where I landed on my butt), wheel change, and wheezing through a few rounds. Should have rested and not even started cos yesterday's exertion made it worse. This morning's ride was ok, but the HR was sky high.... So I'm on the bed slacking away! (:

Hi Daniao! I updated! :p

pix are kinda slow to be uploaded, dunno why, so I will do it another day, perhaps on my livejournal! (:

world champs?

Hello there folks! i'm finally updating again, but all because..........
I'VE GOT TO BLOG ABOUT THIS CRAZY OLD MAN!
well, it all started out nice and dandy with me happily** going out for a ride after not riding since Sunday's morning ride (due to a left quad strain, but that's another story)
cycle cycle cycle...red traffic light.....brake....stop
I was just 400m into my ride and stopped at a traffic light
so the other light turned red, meaning my light was going to turn green already
as usual, i pushed off just before it turned green (like maybe 2 seconds???) so that i could clip in my shoes and pedal off before the cars behind get impatient and honk at me
BUT, to my annnoyance (is there such a word), the car behind honked at me like 4 honks or so!
BOY I WAS PISSED. (refer back to ** above, i wasnt VERY HAPPY at the start of the ride cos i was hot and sleepy)
I turned around to look at him to see what his problem was and i saw him wagging his finger and then he honked some more!!!!
I seriously had NO IDEA why he was doing that or why he honked at all!
so i gave him the 'what is ur problem hand sign' and shook my head in disbelief thinking to myself 'this guy is seriously NUTS', wanting to get on with my ride
so he sped up, cut infront of me, braked, making me brake and swerve out to my right to overtake him and got out of his car to say "YOU BEAT THE RED LIGHT!!!!"
....................................................  (-_-'")
by this time, i was convinced that he was mad (oh he had a teenage daughter in his car. pity the kid, having such a crazy pop)
for the next 20 mins of my ride, i was in disbelief and couldnt believe that crazy old man was actually so worked up because i rolled off 2 seconds (or maybe even less) before the light turned green all because i didnt want him to get caught up behind me........................................
i serioulsy do not understand these drivers.........honk when we go off early and honk when we don't.
breathe in.............breathe out............... relax dinahsaur.............................

on a side note, World Champs anyone? (:

i've so got to lose that flab.its very annoying and uncomfortable

disturbed

hi all! some updates!
First and foremost
Praise the Lord for all He has done!
i got 6th for Asian Cycling Championships ITT, just what I had aimed for so that I can qualify for Asian Games at the end of the year!
and I did! with His help!
but with a twist......
well, my Wilier Crono was UCI legal for the Pro tour when the Lampre Team used it
BUT, the UCI for this race disallowed it!!! 10minutes before my race start!!!!
Thank God for His perfect plans, we brought along Malvin's bike with us early in the morning when his race was after mine and thank God that he was about my size
soooo with Alex Da Niao and FT (frankie tan)'s frantic but quick and efficient hands, i got my bike ready with my own seat, wheels, pedals and it was off to the ramp immediately
THANK GOD that i also did quite a hard warm up before that even though i wanted to do some 30secs AFTER the bike check and Thank God that Dan brought my bike to the check as one of the first, giving us time to change everything
Everything in His timing and plan! (:

having a  good time here with the rest of the gang, Serene Lee Jer Ling , Ho Jun Rong and Malvin Lai.
can't wait for the rest to come tomorrow!!!!! (:

on a side note
i don't like politics :(:(
kinda disappointed :(:(
i think i trust people too much and think that they are all as open and transparent as me :(:(

next up, pictures of Loop de Mandai with Jambion Low Suthep and currently 21-years-1-day-old sister!

all loaded for the ride!

decided to be vain and wear ankle socks

cloudy sky........

picking up my first companion Jambion Low Suthep with a newspaper tucked in his pocket, his cheater Easton wheels, and his custom made jambion helmet that says "LOW JI WEN", "2009 Singapore National Champion"

here comes the sister!

Jambion drafting!!!!

and finally, the not so happy ending - a rear flat on the cheater Easton wheels, making them not so cheater anymore...a nail pierced through it along Kranji reservoir and poor about-to-bonk-Jambion had to ride on it for half an hour before we could swap with my sis's wheel at NTU

no more pictures cos i spend most of the time worrying if the Jambion was fine and if the pace was alright for the sis, etc. i shall bring the camera along next time!

God's Blessings (:

hi friends, prepare yourself for pictures, pictures and more pictures!
First up,

Pretty pretty Starbucks Coffee mug! very pretty and christmassey! the penguin is so cute! and it matches my bedsheets!Given by MOK, for christmas! :)
Next, JohnChin gave me this custom made Nike Shirt! Long story as to why he got it for me...haha!

Bought a new handphone! Samsung Omnia Pro 7330. the old one was really cranky so i traded it in

Now, time for BIKE STUFF! In preparation for the SEA Games, Uncle Robert Choy lent me CARBON CRANKS, DISC POWERTAP as well as ZIPP 404.  VIOLENT! After the bike was built up and I was supposed to train with it, I didnt DARE to touch it! but of course in the end I did la and it was AWESOME! Super light! Check it out! Looks soooo fierce

Gaerne also sponsored my NEW WHITE SHOES! Thanks to Jackie from Actionbods for brining it in for me! She got them to specially DHL it to Singapore so that I could get used to it asap for the Games!

I also got a free pair of OAKLEY RADAR, red and white, just like my bike/helmet/shoes/everything else. Thanks to Joey from Oakley Singapore! I see the world much clearer now. hahaha!
Not forgetting a new nutrition sponsor! Science in Sport (SiS) has joined my long list of sponsors in supporting me! :) Thanks to Patrick for taking me in! Here are the products that i've tried so far:

Rego Strawberry – Recovery Drink. It's Delicious! I love this product the best! It tastes exactly like a strawberry milkshake, not like any other protein shake that I’ve taken before (they all have this weird protein taste). It helps me recover from a hard training session and it is definitely something I look forward to at the end of training!

Go Lemon Lime – Electolyte Drink. Very refreshing taste! Gives me a boost of energy whenever I take a sip of it during my long rides in the sun.

PSP22 Orange – A carbohydrate drink. Keeps me going during my long rides and prevents me from bonking. I don’t feel as tired as the times when I just drink plain water during my rides.

Go Gel – As the name says, its a gel. It was my first time ever eating a gel and the experience was WONDERFUL. I was climbing a mountain during my training camp in Chiang Mai and I my legs were feeling extremely tired. After eating a gel – it was so delicious and tasty I finished it up in a few seconds – I immediately felt better and had more energy to push my heart rate up. The gel tasted like jelly and it wasn’t too sweet or too sticky. I love it.

GO Bar – They use real fruit juices to make the snack bar! I like the apple blackcurrant flavour. It’s a good bar if I am hungry on a ride and need a solid snack. It's huge too...it took me 3 days to finish 1 bar. haha!

Nocte – A night drink that helps with recovery, for consecutive tranining days. Chocolate rocks, just like having a night cuppa milk before going to bed.

and finally, thanks to NIKE for supporting me! check out the number of bags i had to carry back from the lil visit to the office...........looks like i just got back from a warehouse sale or something. Thanks Andrew! And all the best for your IRONMAN! (i dun think he even reads my blog. hahaha) the stuff inside will be left for another day...........

I THANK GOD FOR ALL HIS BLESSINGS, ALL THESE STUFF THAT HE'S GIVEN TO ME IS OVERWHELMING!

okay this post took me extremely long. that's why i don't like to blog....but since i have all the time in the world now, that's why i blogged. hahaha! alrighty enough nonsense. i'll leave it to another post to show you guys the pictures from Monday's lil field trip to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

one last thing: TAPERING ROCKS MY SOCKS!

Sunday, November 29, 2009

TWO WEEKS

today marks the end of the hard training period for the SEA Games
tomorrow we start tapering! YESSSSSS!!!!
14 days to my event
11 days before we leave
EXCITING!

i think this picture is very nice
it was taken at the flag presentation for the SEA Games a few weeks ago
the whole road cycling team was there! nice!
check out the lil boys swimming in their huge Tshirts which were size S. and mine was too small for me. hahaha

so, i went to sitex yesterday with the bf with the aim of getting the Panasonic Camera as well as scout for a new handphone cos my old one has been really really disobedient
it was such a disappointment! there wasn't even a SingTel booth! only M1 and Starhub
couldn't believe it man! and there wasn't a Panasonic booth either!!!!!!
the Samsung booth didn't have many handphones too, or maybe we (I) was so disappointed that there wasn't a SingTel booth that i didnt even bother to search much for the samsung phones -_-

well at least the visit to the Library before that was successful
reading Positively False now, the Floyd Landis book
very inspiring! these professional riders are so driven and ride insane number of miles
i guess that's what makes them champions
their brains are wired differently

so today's TT training was TIRING
good thing i met Lan Niao along the way to LCK and followed his L2 pace so that i got a good warm up before the hard intervals....if not i think i'll be slacking away.haha!
then saw the Thomson ride as they passed by with chichi jiwen adi and a few others in a breakaway! so exciting to see a ride from the outside...the pelaton was rather big today

ok sorry for it being abrupt, but suddenly i am feeling VERY TIRED
bye!
